Talk Series 33

Towards a Regenerative Building Culture: Unpacking the Australian Reduction Roadmap

Speaker:

Tim Schork

Summary:

It is clear that we cannot afford to continue the practice of architecture in the way we do now. There is a real and urgent need to rethink our current building culture and practices and to find solutions that allow to build more with less material and using renewable resources that lower our environmental and ecological footprint, accelerate circularity and create high-quality and affordable outcomes. The Australian Reductions Roadmap, is a framework that calls for a dramatic 98% reduction in construction-based emissions in Australian housing to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement. In this talk, Prof Tim Schork, one of the co-authors of the Roadmap, will unpack its key strategies and implications for the future of construction.

This talk was delivered online on 2 December 2025. Talk duration is 48 minutes.

Speaker Bio:

Tim is the Capacity Building Professor of Architecture in the QUT School of Architecture and Built Environment in the Faculty of Engineering. He is an internationally recognised pioneer in architectural computing and advanced manufacturing and a strong advocate for reducing the environmental footprint of the building industry. His award-winning research advances computational design, modern methods of construction, and bio-based building materials and develops real-world solutions that transform architectural design and construction practices to be resource-efficient, circular, and affordable.
