Adopting a Bio-Regional Approach for Regenerative Construction Practices

This CPD explores the challenges and opportunities of adopting regenerative construction practices with a focus on bamboo construction. Beginning with an overview of the concept of regenerative construction, the talk will discuss different case studies in Australia and Indonesia that provide practical examples of how bamboo can be integrated into contemporary construction. Participants will learn about tracing value chains from forest to construction and the use of Life Cycle Assessment as a real time design tool for understanding the impacts of material choice on carbon emissions.

Speaker Bio:
Jed Long is an architect, maker, and co-founder of Cave Urban. His work explores how vernacular knowledge, natural materials, and community-led making shape regenerative approaches to building. A Churchill Fellow and recipient of the Marten Bequest, Jed leads research initiatives for the Bamboo Village Trust and Bauhaus Earth, while also undertaking a PhD on the use of bamboo in non-traditional contexts.
